  • Lead, mentor, and manage a group of scientists to support early CMC development for customers.
  • Define and optimize the work processes within the department, and coordinate cross-functional project teams to ensure the development services meet customers’ quality requirements and timelines.
  • Participate in decision-making process with senior management on budgeting an d planning, and implementation.
  • Initiate, develop, and foster a long-term partnership with customers.
  • Manage the daily operations and activities within the department. Provide training and technical guidance to scientists to ensure the quality of work and timely completion of projects as required.
  • Be responsible for departmental performance and individual performance evaluations.
  • Be familiar with overall pharmaceutical development process, cGMP and regulatory guidelines.
  • í˛ľCreate, review, approve, and implement SOPs within the department.
  • Maintain a safe and compliant work environment.
  • Have a degree of Ph.D. with 5 – 10 years, or M.S. with 15+ years of technical and managerial experience in pharmaceutical industry.
  • Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Additional responsibilities and qualifications required for the following positions are:

Director, Process Analytical Developmen

  • Manage the analytical department’s daily activities including method development and validation, in-process control and routine sample analysis, review experimental results and reports, problem-solving, and teleconference with customers.
  • Hands-on method development experience and in-depth knowledge of chromatographic techniques such as HPLC, LC-MS, GC, GC-MS, chiral separations, and chemical and structural characterizations.
  • Education in analytical chemistry, organic chemistry, or related disciplines.

Director, Preformulation Development

  • í˛ľManage a group of scientists to support physical characterizations of APIs for their developability assessment, and oral dosage form development.
  • í˛ľHands-on experience and in-depth knowledge are essential on thermal analysis, salt and polymorph screening, solubility, hygroscopicity, stress study, excipient compatibility, and overall solid state characterizations using TGA, DSC, microscopy, XRD, and particle size measurement.
  • Education in pharmaceutical sciences, physical chemistry, or analytical chemistry.

Director, Analytical Development Services

  • Manage the analytical development services’ daily activities including method development and validation for intermediates, drug substances and drug products, routine sample analysis, review experimental results and reports, problem-solving, and teleconference with customers
  • Hands-on method development experience, and in-depth knowledge of chromatographic techniques such as HPLC, LC-MS, GC, GC-MS, dissolution techniques, and chemical and structural characterizations.
  • Manage drug substance and drug product stability programs.
  • Education in analytical chemistry, organic chemistry, or related disciplines.

POSITION TITLE: Chemical Project Engineer

REPORTING TO: Crystex Manufacturing Manager

LOCATION: Pittsburgh , Pa. Region

Flexsys has an immediate opening for a Chemical Process Specialist in the Crystex Technology Group. This individual should be an experienced chemical engineer who speaks Mandarin Chinese.

Flexsys is the leading manufacturer and supplier of chemicals for the rubber processing and related industries. Flexsys combines state-of-the-art technology with world-class manufacturing. The products and services provided are vital for the quality and performance of customer products. Formed in 1995 as a joint venture between Akzo Nobel and Monsanto, Flexsys became a wholly owned division of Solutia in 2007.

 Flexsys has sales of approximately US$750 million and employs about 600 people at over 20 sites throughout the world. Of Flexsys' twenty plants, seven manufacture Crystex. Crystex is the rubber industry's leading brand of insoluble sulfur. It is a non-blooming vulcanizing agent for unsaturated elastomers. By being insoluble in elastomers, Crystex retards bin scorch, prevents migration of sulfur and preserves surface tack. This is important in the manufacture of tires and other plied-up rubber goods.

The Crystex Technology Group functions as the central research and development and engineering resource within the Crystex business and provides operational support to production facilities in the Americas , Europe , and Asia/Pacific regions. The group is responsible for continuously improving the Crystex process with respect to safety, capacity, manufacturing cost, product quality and end use application performance. Technology group personnel are also involved with product marketing and commercialization. The position is based in Monongahela , PA , USA (near Pittsburgh , PA ) with travel to the worldwide production facilities required.

SCOPE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 Flexsys is investing in China . The purpose of the investment is to establish a manufacturing base for sales in Asia . It seeks a versatile project manager who will be the interface between Flexsys' business management in the United States and the development of the China operation. This project manager will oversee the implementation of the manufacturing processes in China to the level of Flexsys' demanding international standards. The manager will ensure the implementation of quality standards and he/she will also serve as the interface between the China operations and US management.

This individual should view him/herself as a change agent. He/she will participate in an initiative to upgrade the operations processes at Flexsys' new locations.

 Specific responsibilities include:

 •  Coordinates the creation, development, design and improvement of business processes in conformance with established company procedures and objectives.

•  Provides plant support at international locations.

•  Conducts plant testing.

•  Evaluates and develops new processes and value engineering alternatives.

•  Develops process scope of work and function as Process Licensor for capital projects.

•  Oversees technology exchange.

•  Provides marketing and customer support.

•  Implements quality standards including purchasing standards.

•  This position requires at least 50% travel to China .

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

•  Minimum of 8-10 years relevant work experience including 10 years of process design engineering experience and/or manufacturing.

•  Extensive industry exposure to a range of CPI processes and unit operations.

•  Management experience leading managing teams to undertake and accomplish projects.

•  Project engineering skills.

•  Plant commissioning / start-up / troubleshooting skills.

•  Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

•  Ability to adapt to different cultural environments.

•  Training in Six Sigma and/or other quality/process improvement methodology preferred but not required.

•  Ability to speak Mandarin Chinese and English.

 SPECIAL ABILITIES:

•  Highly effective at analyzing operations data and recommending processes to improve operating standards.

•  Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.

•  Ability to completely maintain confidentiality, discretion in business relationships and exercise sound business judgment.
